The First “Aperitivo” Comes to a Close – A New Festival Puts Rijeka on the Map for Bitter Liqueur Lovers
The first edition of Aperitivo – the festival celebrating wormwood and bitter herbal liqueurs proved that Rijeka has found a unique new event with a story of its own, attracting even the most discerning fans of quality spirits.
Held on Friday, 27 February and Saturday, 28 February, the festival welcomed around 2,000 visitors to Exportdrvo in Rijeka. For two days, the venue became a lively meeting point for producers, partners, fans and friends, who came together to explore a wide selection of spirits, take part in educational workshops and enjoy the festival atmosphere.
The event brought together an impressive range of producers and brands, offering visitors a taste of some of the best the world of herbal liqueurs and craft spirits has to offer.
Tradition Meets a Modern Approach
While the festival brought together a wide range of styles and interpretations of bitter spirits, Vergilas Craft Distillery stood out as a brand that combines a deep respect for tradition with a fresh and innovative approach to distilling.
At Aperitivo, the distillery put three of its herbal favourites in the spotlight – Pelinkovac, Amaro and Ričina – while also presenting the rest of its diverse spirits collection. Their presence at the festival was about more than simply showcasing products; it was an opportunity to share authentic local flavours and carefully developed recipes with visitors.
The festival also marked the launch of Vergilas Craft Distillery’s own online shop, with visitors able to take advantage of a special discount across the entire range throughout the festival weekend.
More Than Just Drinks – A Complete Experience
Alongside its impressive selection of spirits, the festival also offered a rich food programme. Chef Senad Lović, supported by McCain Foods, created a menu designed to complement the distinctive bitter and aromatic notes of the liqueurs.
Music and creative activities added to the experience, creating a relaxed and lively atmosphere throughout the festival. The varied entertainment programme was complemented by several eye-catching photo spots where visitors could capture their favourite moments, while a series of giveaways leading up to the event helped build excitement and encourage interaction with the audience.
The Beginning of a New Tradition
Even in its first edition, Aperitivo made it clear that Rijeka has a place for festivals dedicated to the world of spirits and herbal liqueurs. Festival organiser Adriana Battistella has already announced that another edition is on the way – and if this first chapter is anything to go by, Rijeka has a bright, and perhaps pleasantly bitter, future ahead in the world of herbal liqueurs.
