Trnovica Sloe Liqueur was created amidst the gentle sound of waterfalls and the serenity of the Rječina River, in a restored mill in Trnovica, a small village nestled along the river. It captures the distinctive flavour of the sloe, a wild plant that grows naturally in meadows and along woodland edges, recognizable by its small leaves and delicate white flowers. Its fruits ripen in August, but are best harvested in December, after the autumn frosts have softened their naturally astringent taste. Infused with high-quality brandy, they create a unique and harmonious flavour, crafted to be savoured. In medieval monasteries, sloes were highly valued for their rich content of vitamin C and tannins, traditionally associated with soothing the mucous membranes and supporting the throat during inflammation. The tradition of harvesting the fruit after the first frost has been passed down through generations, allowing its natural astringency to develop into a distinctive, mellow sweetness.
